Founder Frank Diaz: Where the Fire Started
Tin Hut BBQ began long before the first food truck ever rolled out. For founder and pitmaster Frank Diaz, the spark was lit as a kid standing beside his dad at the grill. At eleven years old, fork and tongs in hand, he discovered the joy of feeding people — a simple moment that shaped a lifetime of passion. Growing up as an Army brat, food became a way to build community, connect with neighbors, and bring comfort wherever life moved.
A Life of Service, A Dream in Waiting
Frank went on to serve 33 years in uniform and as a Department of Defense Anti‑Terrorism Specialist. Throughout his military career, he admired the MKT — the mobile kitchen trailer that fed troops in the field. That admiration grew into a vision: a mobile barbecue business he could take into the civilian world. After retiring as a disabled Army veteran and relocating to Oahu, he finally turned that long‑held dream into reality, launching his first Tin Hut BBQ food truck.
Building Tin Hut BBQ in Hawaii
On Oahu, Frank launched his first barbecue trailer, serving bases across the island and feeding service members by the thousands. The business quickly expanded into a fleet of trucks and a brick‑and‑mortar kiosk. As demand grew, Frank founded Aloha Gourmet Food Trucks Hawaii, partnering with top mobile cuisine entrepreneurs to bring diverse, cultural food options to events with the click of a button.

Tin Hut BBQ is born from heart, heritage, and a love for feeding people well. Every cut is hand‑picked, seasoned with Frank’s signature rubs, and smoked low and slow until it’s tender with meaning.
